1. Build for flash photography
Flash washes out subtle makeup. Add 20 percent more depth across contour, eye, and lip. What looks slightly too strong in the mirror will read correctly in photos.
2. Choose long-wear over comfort
Full-coverage long-wear foundation and liquid lipstick over comfort formulas. The trade-off is worth it for an 8 hour event with photo opportunities throughout.
3. Define the eye over the lip
A defined eye photographs better at distance than a bold lip. The lip reads on close-ups. The eye reads in every wide-shot photo from the stage or the floor.
4. Lock the base with three setting steps
Setting spray, translucent powder, setting spray. In that order. The base has to last through the cocktail hour, the seated dinner, the program, and the dancing.
5. Plan for 8 hours minimum
Most Dallas galas run cocktails at 6, dinner at 7, program at 8, dancing until 11 or midnight. Makeup applied at 4 PM has to hold 8 hours.
