Quick Answer
Covering a tattoo or scar for your wedding comes down to six steps. 1) Decide whether to cover or show it. 2) Prep the area gently. 3) Color-correct before concealing. 4) Use a high-pigment, skin-safe cover product. 5) Set it in thin layers. 6) Test it at your trial, including a rub and sweat test.

What Changes When You Want Coverage on Your Wedding Day
Face makeup is built to move with you, but arms, shoulders, and décolletage get touched, hugged, and sit in the Texas sun. Body coverage needs more planning than a standard bridal look, so build it into your timeline early. Our bridal makeup prep timeline shows where to fit it.
1. Decide: Cover It, Soften It, or Show It
Some brides want a tattoo fully hidden, others only want it softened for photos, and many choose to show it proudly. All three are valid. Decide before the trial so we can plan products and time.
2. Prep the Area Gently
Moisturize the skin the night before and again that morning, then let it absorb. Fresh scars or healing tattoos should be fully healed first; check with your doctor or tattoo artist if unsure.
3. Color-Correct First
Dark blue and black ink usually needs a peach or orange corrector before concealer, and red scars respond to a green tint. A thin corrector layer does more than piling on concealer.
4. Use a High-Pigment Cover Product
Body-specific, waterproof concealers are made for this job. Match the shade to the surrounding skin, not to your face, since body tone is often different.
5. Set in Thin Layers
Press, set with a fine powder, and repeat. Thin layers look more natural and hold better than one thick coat. A finishing spray helps it last through hugs and dancing.
6. Test It at the Trial
Ask for a rub test and a sweat test, then check it under flash and outdoor light. If you also have reactive skin, read our tips for sensitive skin.
FAQ
Can all tattoos be fully covered?
Most can be covered well enough for photos, though very dark or raised ink may stay faintly visible up close.
Will it rub off on my dress?
Properly set body makeup transfers very little, and we will test this with your dress fabric when possible.
How long does coverage take?
Plan an extra 15 to 30 minutes per area on the wedding morning.
